I wrote about the 50th anniversary of the East L.A. Walkouts for the California State University, Los Angeles magazine. The Walkouts, or Blowouts, was a seminal event in the struggle for civil rights for Chicanos and helped energize a movement that would create a new generation of community leaders and change the political and social landscape of Los Angeles.
