Chasing Salazar

Chasing Salazar

I spent years chasing the suspicious slaying of trailblazing Los Angeles Times journalist Ruben Salazar, searching for answers to questions that the newspaper should have asked decades earlier. A Los Angeles Times columnist and KMEX-TV news director, Salazar was slain in 1970 by a sheriff’s deputy after violence erupted during a monumental anti-Vietnam War and civil rights rally.

Here’s a link to my first-person piece, published in the Los Angeles Times as part of a special package commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the National Chicano Moratorium Against the Vietnam War, the rally where Salazar and three others died.
